![]() Our volunteers -" People of Action " began work in March 2025, when the first call was to help install the All-Abilities Shower and Toilet unit supplied by Tiny Homes, and our members, Des, & Gerry, along with John Arena’s business supplied a forklift to help manoeuver the unit in place. The next stage was the building of the kitchenette, where Stef, Des from RC Lilydale, Richard from E-club Holy Fools Felix House Project, (formerly Outreach drop-in Centre) Rotary Club of Lilydale, applied for a grant from District 9815 Foundation in December 2024. Received approval 12th February 2025 to proceed The aim was to help alleviate homelessness through the support of Holy Fools Inc. The Rotary Club of Lilydale supplied and installed the kitchenette, including a sink, benches and cupboards. "We are so thankful for the efforts of Margaret and Des from Rotary to get this project underway with a grant from Rotary Australia. " -{Neal Taylor Holy Fools} The Project gives Rotary Lilydale the opportunity to provide visible support to the community as follows. This refurbished area is designed to provide practical support for clients to access an area designed to enable them the use of a kitchenette area. This is supported by an all-abilities accessible shower and toilet unit supplied separately by Tiny Homes Pty Ltd. Clients to be able to make themselves a light meal whilst accessing the services provided at the centre - including shower and clothes laundry facilities. An additional feature of Felix House is the provision of a room dedicated for the use of professionals to offer a wide variety of support services to the clients. and Stan from Holy fools all worked together to build the fram for the kitchenette. Installation of the kitchen cupboards was then done by Richard, Des and Stan. Plumbers and electricians fitted off the kitchenette, lastly tiling was completed by members Cheryl, Des and RichardSince the completion of the works Neil Taylor, Holy Fools reports, “Our new facilities at Felix House have been busy this week. Both the shower and the laundry have been in operation every day. For some people, accessing the shower is their first shower in a couple of weeks. The people are all women, apart from one young man, with ages ranging from mid-forties to mid-seventies. They are all sleeping in a vehicle. Our shower has only been operational for just over a week now but has been used almost daily.” (Neal Taylor 12th April).
