My name is Amy and my family lives here in Lilydale. Our son Christian is 5 years old and lives with PURA syndrome, an extremely rare genetic condition. In six weeks, our family will be taking part in the Melbourne Marathon Festival with Team PURA. We now have 100 people in the team and are raising funds for epilepsy research into PURA syndrome at The Florey Institute. We've raised around $4,000 so far, but we really want to build momentum locally over these final six weeks. I wondered if I might be able to come along to one of your upcoming meetings for 5–10 minutes to introduce Christian, explain a little about PURA syndrome and share why this research is so important to our family. We would also be incredibly grateful if the club would consider supporting Team PURA through a donation or helping us with a local fundraising activity. For us, this is about giving children like Christian the best possible future and helping researchers understand and ultimately treat the epilepsy associated with PURA syndrome. Our fundraising page is: Thank you for considering supporting a local Lilydale family. I'd love the opportunity to come and speak with you. Thank you for reaching out to the Rotary Club of Lilydale and for sharing Christian's story with us. We appreciate you taking the time to tell us about PURA syndrome, the important work being undertaken through Team PURA, and your family's commitment to raising funds for epilepsy research. Board has approved a $200 donation to support Team PURA. I have made the donation via the fundraising link you provided. Please see the proof attached. we would be very interested in partnering with you next year, should you decide to participate again. We believe there is real potential for Rotary Club of Lilydale and Team PURA to work together on a community fundraising event that raises both awareness and much-needed funds, while bringing the local community together behind such an important cause. We would also like to invite you to be our guest speaker at our Club Meeting on Tuesday, 10 November. We'd love to hear how the fundraising campaign and the marathon went, learn more about the impact of the research, and discuss how we might work together in the future to support Team PURA. We wish you, Christian and your entire Team PURA every success over the coming weeks. We'll certainly be cheering you on and look forward to hearing how everything goes. |
